In December 2006, in Orlando, Florida there was a meeting of the minds. One from Alaska and the other from Honduras by way of NYC. Through this connection I grew in what I imagined was possible for my community, got technOrganized, got my team technOrganized and a mvmt began.
Young people from diverse backgrounds finding each other. Finding a reason to stay. From a community building campaign in 2008. To laying an organizational foundation in 2009. Weaving relationships. Connecting the dots. Growing community - growing people.
What happens when you bring together the memberships of two organizations that focus on underrepresented communities of color and their collective networks? When you provide training on easy to use, free online tools for collaboration, organization, collaborative project management, information and resource sharing? Coupled with leadership and career workshops that address image, personal branding, conflict resolution, developing professional support systems, understanding yourself, understanding others, and the principles of social justice organizing?
You plant seeds for greater community collaboration, the realization that our collective vision for our community is possible, that our time is now.
